View ProjectsWho we are
We are dedicated to creating impactful solutions that restore coral reefs, protect marine ecosystems, and ensure a sustainable future for Jamaica's coastal communities.
Our Vision
To be a leader in coral reef restoration in Jamaica and the Caribbean, inspiring communities and organizations to take action in protecting our marine ecosystems for future generations.
Our Mission
Reef Construction Limited's mission is to restore coral reefs through coral restoration projects and programmes. We work to reverse decades of decline caused by bleaching, disease, overfishing, hurricanes, and pollution.
Why We Need Your Help
Healthy reefs mean thriving communities. When coral dies, fish populations decline, shorelines erode, and families who depend on the sea feel the impact first.
Who We Are
We are a small passionate team located in Jamaica dedicated to creating impactful solutions that restore coral reefs, protect marine ecosystems, and ensure a sustainable future for Jamaica's coastal communities.
Adopt A CoralCoastal Protection
Coral reefs act as natural barriers against swells, waves and storms; protecting beaches and shorelines from erosion.
Marine Biodiversity
Supporting more than one quarter of all marine species, reefs act as nurseries for juvenile fish and homes for marine life.
Blue Economy
Coral reefs are integral to eco-tourism and must be considered a pillar on which coastal tourism is based.
Climate Resilience
Healthy reefs help coastal communities adapt to climate change by reducing wave energy and storm surge impacts.
Meet Our Founder
Jonathan Hernould
Managing Director & Coral Specialist
Jonathan Hernould was born in Jamaica and brought up around the sea, which sparked his interest in marine life and conservation. This led to his Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from Iona College and his return to Jamaica thereafter.
Since then he has been working in the environmental field in Jamaica and the Caribbean for over ten years. Conceptualizing, managing and working on projects such as Marine Sanctuaries, Sea Turtle Conservation, Solid Waste Management and Coastal Ecosystem Restoration.
Specialized and highly skilled in Coral Restoration, he has been motivated to use the skills he has learned from working in the field for almost 10 years. Having worked on coral restoration projects all over Jamaica and the Caribbean, he found it important that the coral reefs in the Port Royal Cays received some well needed attention. This idea was the start of Reef Construction Limited and the Port Royal Cays Coral Restoration Project.
Every action matters. Together, we can protect our reefs.
Join us in restoring coral ecosystems for future generations.
